Moreover, we focus on honing your observational skills, enabling you to detect any anomalies or significant changes in a patient's vitals, which can be crucial in emergency situations. By the end of this module, you will be well-equipped to perform vital signs assessments confidently, accurately, and professionally.

  • Preparing a Birth Site

You will learn how to transform a home or birth center into a space that's conducive to childbirth, taking into account the unique needs of the birthing woman, her family, and the midwifery team. We'll walk you through how to identify and arrange necessary equipment and supplies, create a calming atmosphere, ensure appropriate sanitation, and make arrangements for possible emergency situations.

  • Sterile Technique and Universal Precautions

learn the critical importance of maintaining cleanliness, preventing infections, and ensuring the safety of both the mother and newborn during childbirth. We'll start by imparting the fundamental principles of sterile technique, showing you how to correctly use sterile gloves, instruments, and field set-ups. We will discuss the difference between clean, aseptic and sterile techniques and when to apply each. Simultaneously, we will introduce you to the concept of Universal Precautions, which involve treating all human blood and certain bodily fluids as if they are known to be infectious for HIV, HBV, and other bloodborne pathogens. This will cover safe handling and disposal of sharps, appropriate use of protective barriers like gloves and masks, and immediate response actions for potential exposure to infectious materials.

  • Venipuncture

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will perform supervised venipunctures on training models and REAL LIFE pregnant client. This practical session is designed to help you become familiar with the feel and technique of performing a successful venipuncture, from locating suitable veins to properly inserting the needle, and drawing and handling the blood samples. Furthermore, you'll be encouraged to practice patient communication and comfort measures, simulating a holistic patient care experience. This interactive approach is not only a confidence booster, but it also ensures that you'll be fully prepared and competent in performing phlebotomy tasks in a real-world setting.

  • Fetal Heart Tones and Palpation

You will learn to master the techniques for monitoring fetal heart tones, understanding the normal range and recognizing any deviations that may indicate distress. Using tools such as Doppler devices, you will get the chance to practice listening to and interpreting fetal heart rates in a variety of simulated scenarios. In addition, we will guide you through the process of maternal abdominal examination, teaching you the systematic palpation techniques used to assess the position and wellbeing of the baby. With carefully guided hands-on practice, you will gain the confidence and skill to perform these sensitive and important tasks proficiently, ensuring the best care for mothers-to-be and their babies.

  • Emergency Procedures

This practical segment of the course places you in a variety of simulated situations that mirror real-life emergencies, such as hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, or fetal distress. You'll learn to identify the signs of these complications swiftly and accurately, allowing for timely interventions. We'll also train you in effective response techniques, focusing on prompt actions that can be crucial in these circumstances. This will include correct positioning, use of emergency medical equipment, administering first aid, and effective communication with the wider medical team. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, we aim to ensure you are well-prepared to handle emergencies confidently and effectively, contributing to safer birth experiences for the mothers and babies in your care.

  • Administering Medications

Our course covers the basics of pharmacology as it relates to childbirth and neonatal care, ensuring that our students develop a solid understanding of medication types, dosage calculations, and potential side effects. We emphasize the importance of proper techniques for administering medications, including safe handling, storage, and administration methods. Our expert instructors guide students through practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, equipping them with the necessary skills to confidently and accurately administer medications in various childbirth and neonatal care scenarios. By the end of our course, students will possess the knowledge and proficiency required to ensure the optimal well-being and care of both the birthing individual and the newborn.

  • Newborn Assessments

Our course covers the essential skills and knowledge required to conduct thorough and accurate assessments of newborns, including physical examination, and vital signs monitoring. Our experienced instructors guide students through hands-on practice sessions, allowing them to develop proficiency in assessing various aspects of a newborn's health, such as skin appearance, reflexes, respiratory status, and overall well-being.

  • Neonatal Resuscitation

We recognize the importance of preparing our students to provide high-quality care in diverse birthing environments, including home births and birthing centers.

We place a strong emphasis on Neonatal Resuscitation, equipping our students with the necessary skills to recognize and respond to newborns who require immediate intervention to establish or restore their breathing and circulation. Our experienced instructors provide hands-on training, simulation exercises, and real-life scenarios to ensure that students develop the confidence and competence to handle these critical situations with expertise and compassion. By the end of our course, students will possess the skills and knowledge to contribute to positive birth experiences and provide essential care for newborns in community settings.

  • Oxygen use

In our Midwife Assistant Training Course, we dedicate a comprehensive lesson to educating our students about the safe use of oxygen in various childbirth and neonatal care scenarios. This lesson emphasizes the importance of understanding oxygen administration, delivery systems, and appropriate monitoring techniques. Our expert instructors cover topics such as assessing the need for supplemental oxygen, calculating appropriate oxygen flow rates, and ensuring proper oxygen concentration for optimal patient outcomes. We also address potential risks and complications associated with oxygen therapy, along with strategies for mitigating those risks. Through interactive discussions, hands-on practice, and case studies, we equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to administer oxygen safely, ensuring the well-being and comfort of both the birthing individual and the newborn. By the end of this lesson, our students will possess the competence and confidence to effectively utilize oxygen therapy in a responsible and patient-centered manner.
